The COMPRO-II annual planning meetings have proven useful for information sharing among partners and drawing lessons for each other's experience. However, participation is generally limited to focal points as this implies international travel. Hence, country-specific planning meetings are always necessary to engage the key stakeholders in each project country. In April 2016, a planning meeting was held in Nigeria to mainly engage the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as well as the Standards Organization of Nigeria (Participants' photo).
The focus of the discussion was on finalizing the regulatory framework for bio-fertilizers and follow up workshop on stakeholders' sensitization about the benefits associated with high quality inputs and the risk related to sub-standard or fake products. This was important to understand the potential overlapping mandates for the two bodies and the strategy to streamline the regulatory efforts to ensure appropriate enforcement of the regulatory mechanisms. An action plan was developed to ensure successful completion of the project activities by end of this year i.e. 2016 and it is being implemented.
